Disturb Me Once
By the end of the day, all the sinners have gone to their respective rooms. The Manager too goes to their office. It is a long night of rest, or at least, that's how it should be.
Vergilius isn't one to get much sleep nowadays. He sits on one of the velvet seats with piles of paperwork by his side, and he steadily writes on his clipboard. Assets, requests from the Head Office, etc.
These were unimportant work that he thanklessly gets out of the way by the morning. As he gets to it however, without even turning his head, he speaks.
Vergilius
The Red Gaze
It'd be better to enjoy what's left of your break instead of looming over me, you know.
A sinner looks over the color with curious intent. He dons a mask that's almost pitch black in color. Much like someone Vergilius knew, once upon a time. Unlike that friend, the emotes on this sinner's face changes. Right now, he's looking displeased.
Roland
Sinner #0
Why are you always up so late, anyway?
He asks, huffing aloud. His position barely changes and it's a wonder how he can keep still for so long.
Roland
Sinner #0
Don't you know it's better if you slept now and worked later instead of the other way around?
This statement almost felt absurd to the color, though he was right. For that reason, Vergilius lets out a rather dry laugh. Which in turns, makes the mask grin wide.
Roland
Sinner #0
You found it funny. Maybe you should listen to my words instead of just laughing.
The Red Gaze puts his clipboard down, and places a hand on his head. Annoyed only a little, he sighs as he tries to give his reasons.
Vergilius
The Red Gaze
You see...I've learned to tune out whatever antics happen between everyone, because I am used to such banters. But when it's silent, I don't have to be bothered by anyone.
Vergilius
The Red Gaze
Hm. Though, that last part doesn't quite apply right now.
Roland
Sinner #0
My point is, you do this all the time. You shouldn't make it such a habit!
Roland
Sinner #0
My room's always open if you want to take a nap there.
Of course. Roland always makes this kind of attempt. It's not as though Vergilius is completely opposed to such matters, but...
Vergilius
The Red Gaze
Don't be so bold. If anyone find you looking at me so fondly, it'll cause trouble.
A short pause, and Roland takes him by the hand anyway. Vergilius and his hands were always known to be rough, calloused. Worn from years and years of becoming the most dangerous man in the City.
Vergilius
The Red Gaze
I have no need for rest. Let go.
Yet he doesn't pull away.
Roland
Sinner #0
Nope. Come with me. I'll treat you well. If you can't sleep even when I'm next to you, I'll talk all night until you relax for once. Or just anything at all.
Roland
Sinner #0
's the least I can do after all the work you've done.
Vergilius wonders, as he's effortlessly pulled up, how many times Roland has done this now, and how many times he'll do it again. He could easily overpower him, and even act upon being dragged away, but something in him simply chooses not to.
Was it laziness, or did this sinner mean something more to him than he realizes? Such thoughts bring him a bit of dread. As they make their way towards the corridor, Vergilius can't help but make one more comment.
Vergilius
The Red Gaze
I hope you know what to say when they see me next to you in the morning.
Roland
Sinner #0
I don't. Hope that helps.
While Roland's back is turned, Vergilius hides a small smile. The night proceeds a little more peacefully.
